Getting started

Creating a situation in which your students are active and involved in their own learning process can sometimes be tricky. However, I found a way to facilitate the process of getting started by using the website: I asked students in my biology class to vote on the correct answer to a (simple) question: Which lion (of four possible) has the highest fitness? The differences in thinking (answers) were made visible in a diagram instantly. The engagement in the following discussions was emormous as students tried to convince each other and outline reasons to justify their different answers. The scene was set to deepen their understanding of the concept fitness.

I could, of course, have asked the students the same question without using a digital tool for voting but the visualisation of the result added an extra dimension.
